Chapter 5: Ancient Mentor

Image
Vladislaus’ mansion was extravagant, even more so than the mansion that Eva had grown up in. Imposing marble statues greeted them as Vladislaus and Eva entered the building.    Expensive crimson carpet padded her feet, it reminded Eva of all the dinner parties she attended in her parents’ friends' homes when she was alive. She never really enjoyed those parties at the time, but she regretted not cherishing them more. Eva followed Vladislaus into the sitting room, which had a very high ceiling and was adorned with many wall decorations. Some of the decor was paintings and others were portraits of people who Eva didn’t recognize.    Vladislaus sat down on a loveseat near the fireplace, and motioned for her to sit down with his large and bony hand. “Would you please take a seat?”    Eva sat down next to Vladislaus on the loveseat. She didn’t know what to expect of this ghostly stranger she had met only minutes before. As much as he seemed like a kind me...

Chapter 4 : Warm Blood

Image
Eva wandered aimlessly through the streets of her new world, feeling nothing of the cold and attempting to keep her mind empty, in fear that she was going insane. She had come across a road of small to medium sized houses, covered in colorful paint and adorned with many lawn decorations. Eva had no idea where she was. She had never seen homes that were so gaudy. As Eva made her way down the road, she came to the house at the end of the block. The thing that made this house standout wasn’t it’s, by comparison to other houses in the area, subtle light brown paint job. It was instead a gang of cats that seemed to linger on the porch of that particular house. Most of them were white or light grey, although a couple were brown. Eva estimated there was about 20 in total. Eva had never owned a cat, as her parents were not very fond of animals. When Eva was young, she often wondered what it was like to own a pet, but she grew sour on the idea as she got older. A small white kitten confidently ...

Chapter 3: Cold Reminder

Image
Night had quickly swept over her as Eva walked down the cracked and jaded road to her unknown destination. The woods looked dark, solid and ageless, but as she began to see buildings, she realized something was amiss. The tall, dark wooden buildings she was accustomed to were replaced by small and polished white and grey houses with large glass windows. The large, clunky street lamps were replaced with sleek metal. There were statues of people and animals she had never seen before. The place seemed uncanny to Eva. A place so familiar, but yet so very different and alien at the same time. It frightened her deeply, somehow even more than anything else so far, because now she could feel the snow on her face and hear the wind howl. Whatever this was, it was her reality.   She came across a wooden fence, with a sign hang upon it reading “Pupperstone Park”. She had never heard of such a place, but a part of her seemed to recognize it. As she walked inside the gate, she noticed a s...

Chapter 2: Resurrection

Image
Eva had been stuck in her mind for a very long time, but time had become meaningless. She was only vaguely aware that noise was happening above her. A metal sound rang out consistently, almost in a pattern. Eva was made more aware of her surroundings after a loud crash hit the top of the coffin lid. She realized that meant that the coffin wasn’t covered by dirt. Her bones felt like steel as Eva attempted to lift her hands to the lid. Sighing from weakness, Eva attempted to push the top of the coffin. Her first attempt was futile, as she could barely move her body at all. Thoughts of defeat danced around her mind, she wondered if it was even possible to be escape in her fragile state. She placed her arms to her side. But inside, a storm was raging. She was sick of being stuck in a box. She was sick of existing in darkness. She was sick of the smell of death. She was sick of being alone. She was sick of being helpless. She took this rage, and pushed with all four of her limbs as ha...

Chapter 1: Lost in a Dream

Image
Eva’s soul had been enveloped in darkness. There was nothing, and thus, she had turned into nothing. Death was endless, but she couldn’t feel it. No heaven or hell, pain or pleasure. Just the sound of the universe. Peace that nobody was around to describe. Eva’s non-existence was interrupted by the sprinkle of warm liquid on her lips. She instinctively opened her mouth and tasted the substance. She recognized the taste of rust and sugar, it was blood. It was disgusting, but it felt refreshing. It was as if Eva spend her entire life without a single drink. Eva found herself able to move, her body was heavy, and it was too dark to see the figure in front of her. Her brain was engulfed by fog, and it felt as if she was lost in a dream. Even in this state, she was able to reach up and grab the lean arm in front of her. Eva placed the wrist to her mouth and sucked the blood into her mouth. As she drank, the strength inside of her that had laid dormant for god knows how long sta...
